Description
This One Pan Chinese Beef and Broccoli is a quick, flavorful stir fry that combines tender slices of beef, crisp broccoli, and a savory-sweet sauce in just 30 minutes. Perfect for busy weeknights, this takeout-inspired recipe is healthier, budget-friendly, and uses only one pan for easy cleanup.
Ingredients
- 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 3 cups broccoli florets (fresh preferred)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar (or honey for variation)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (or arrowroot powder)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1/4 cup water or beef broth
- Cooked white rice or noodles, for serving
Instructions
- Prep the Beef and Broccoli: Slice beef thinly against the grain. Cut broccoli into bite-sized florets.
- Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, sesame oil, and water or broth. Set aside.
- Cook the Broccoli: Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Stir fry broccoli for 2–3 minutes until bright green and just tender. Remove and set aside.
- Sear the Beef: Add remaining olive oil to the skillet. Add beef in a single layer and sear for 2–3 minutes until browned.
- Add Sauce and Broccoli: Return broccoli to skillet. Pour in sauce and stir constantly until thickened and everything is coated, about 2 minutes.
- Serve: Serve hot over rice or noodles, garnished with sesame seeds or green onions if desired.
Notes
For maximum tenderness, partially freeze beef for 15 minutes before slicing. Fresh broccoli gives the best texture, but thawed frozen broccoli can work if patted dry. Adjust sweetness and saltiness to taste.
